This was the first weekend of the fundraiser for Brad Cox and his family and the last count of money collected for Brad that was heard by firefighters was over $30,000.
On Sunday November 14, 2010 engine 22 and engine 23 went off-duty from 3:00pm to 5pm so the trucks and crews would be diverted from dispatch while firefighters could conduct a fundraiser boot drive. The Boot Drive fundraiser for firefighter/ volunteer Fire Chief Brad Cox and his family was done in uniform while at work.
This was the first weekend of the fundraiser for Brad Cox and his family and the last count of money collected for Brad that was heard by firefighters was over $30,000. During Sunday November 14th Boot Drive for Brad Cox a driver dropped a one hundred dollar bill into the boot to help Brad and his family. If the next two weekends of collections go as well as this weekend’s collections it will be a very successful fundraiser for Brad Cox and his family.
The news of Fire Chief Stephen Dean approving firefighters to conduct the fundraising Boot Drive on-duty was sent out on Tuesday November 9, 2010 in a departmental e-mail message.
The Boot Drive fundraiser that had been planned by the local union 1349 members for firefighter/ volunteer fire Chief Brad Cox and was originally planned for firefighters to conduct while off duty because Brad Cox had been injured while off-duty fighting a fire on Dauphin Island as a volunteer fire Chief.
Fire Chief Stephen Dean has also approved that on-duty firefighters will be able to conduct the Fundraising Boot Drive for an extended two extra consecutive weekends to be added to the Boot Drive Fundraiser for Brad Cox.
